AdvancedThis is the highest level of Amateur Radio licence. To gain a full callsign it is necessary to pass the Advanced Radio Communications Examination. This examination is more advanced than the Intermediate, and covers radio theory and licence conditions in much more detail. With a full licence you are permitted to transmit up to 400 Watts (on certain Amateur Radio bands). The Advanced course includes other topics including electro-magnetic compatibility (EMC), antenna design and safety. When studying for the Advanced Radio Communications Examination there is currently no requirement to take a formal training course, this is because the examination is currently theory based, with no practical training element in the syllabus. It is possible to study at home on your own if you so wish. Tutoring and examinations are offered by Carrickfergus Amateur Radio Group over a period of Tuesday evenings at the Club venue. Other local Amateur Radio clubs and societies can offer tutoring and courses specifically for the Advanced Radio Communications Examination. There are also correspondence and Internet courses available.
